Position Summary

Epicurean Butter is seeking a skilled and independent Maintenance Technician to serve as a key technical resource for our second-shift food production operations. This position is responsible for keeping production equipment and facility systems running safely and reliably, responding quickly to equipment issues, and minimizing production downtime. The role requires strong technical skills, sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and the confidence to work with minimal supervision once trained.

Experience working on food production or packaging equipment is strongly preferred. Success in this position depends on maintaining food-safety standards, collaborating effectively with Production and QA, and providing clear communication and documentation between shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on food production and packaging equipment as well as facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using diagnostic tools and technical documentation.
  • Respond to second-shift production breakdowns, identify root causes, and restore equipment to safe, reliable operation as efficiently as possible.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs during available production or sanitation windows and provide technical recommendations for improvement.
  • Lead or assist with equipment installations, modifications, adjustments, and upgrades.
  • Execute work orders independently, prioritize production-critical issues, and escalate concerns when additional support is needed.
  • Proactively identify safety, quality, or operational concerns and recommend practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, and maintenance activities, including clear shift-handoff notes for unresolved or follow-up items.
  • Uphold company policies regarding GMPs, food safety, tool control, Lockout/Tagout, and workplace safety.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, QA, first-shift maintenance, and leadership while providing clear technical status and recommendations.

Qualifications

Solid understanding of:
  • Commercial electrical systems, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Facility maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, utilities) preferred not required
  • Food production machinery — conveyors, pumps, World Cup, Vemag, and Universal Pack systems (preferred)
  • Ability and desire to learn new equipment, processes, and troubleshooting methods
  • Food-safe maintenance procedures, sanitation requirements, GMPs, and tool control practices

Ability to:
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals
  • Work independently, prioritize competing maintenance needs, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision once trained
  • Apply strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills under pressure while supporting active production
  • Communicate equipment status, completed repairs, and unresolved concerns clearly during shift handoffs
  • Remain dependable, adaptable, patient, and proactive in a fast-paced production environment

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of hands-on maintenance or equipment repair experience.
  • Prior experience maintaining food production or food packaging equipment (preferred, not required).
  • Experience supporting evening, off-shift, or independently staffed manufacturing operations is a plus.
